Our Youth! Our Future!
28th February 2011: PRESS RELEASE
OUR YOUTH! OUR FUTURE!
CANUK has noticed with increasing alarm the spiralling levels of
violence resulting in horrific injuries and deaths among Nigerian
youths in Britain.
As the central umbrella body representing the interests of
Nigerians in the United Kingdom, CANUK is joining forces with
relevant bodies and interests to address this anomaly. We have
teamed up with the Nigeria High Commission and the charity, REFOCUS
YOUTH, in organising a Summit whose theme is "Refocusing Nigerian
Youths Leadership Summit: Call For Action."
The purpose of this summit is for the participants to work
together in producing practical solutions that will ultimately lead
to the eradication of violence among Nigerian youths.
This summit, to be chaired by our Acting High Commissioner,
Ambassador Dozie Nwanna OON, will take place at the Banking Hall of
the Nigeria High Commission on the 26th of March, 2011 between 12
to 5pm. It will be attended by youth leaders, educationists, the
Police, religious leaders, Councillors and Mayors, The Mayor of
London, Social Services Officials and other youth-related
organisations and personalities.
CANUK, through this medium, is appealing to Nigerians and
Nigerian-related organisations to send contributions and ideas that
will address this issue. We will acknowledge your contribution,
collate and present them for consideration at the Summit.
At the end of the summit, a communiqué containing practical
solutions to address this issue will be released and circulated to
Nigerians and friends of Nigerians in Britain.
CANUK is not stopping there. We are already putting finishing
touches to a major conference that should take place soon to
address this very important issue. At this conference, to which all
Nigerians and friends of Nigerians will be invited, there will be a
review of the effectiveness of the adoption of the various
solutions offered at the March summit. Further steps to be taken
will be identified, adopted and implemented. And CANUK will not
stop there either!
CANUK commiserates with our fellow Nigerians who have lost their
beloved ones to these violence. Our prayers and thoughts are with
you.
As fellow Nigerians, we urge you to continue to continuously give
us information and ideas that will help us implement our mission:
To Protect, Unite, and Empower Nigerians in the United Kingdom and
our home country Nigeria.
