About CANUK
The Central Association of Nigerians in the United Kingdom (CANUK)
Mission: To Protect, Unite and Empower Nigerians in the United Kingdom
Formed: 2005.
Formed by: Over 80 different Nigerian associations and the Nigeria High Commission in the United Kingdom.
Founding Ambassadors: HE, Dr Christopher Kolade CON and Ambassador Dozie Nwanna OON.
Patrons: HE, Dr Christopher Kolade CON and HE, Dr Dalhatu Sarki Tafida OFR, Nigeria High Commissioner to the United Kingdom.
Members: Currently, over 120 Nigerian associations with approximately 40,000 members.The target is the estimated 1,500 Nigerian associations representing over 2 million Nigerians in the United Kingdom.
Operation: Members of the various Nigerian associations elect their Executives who choose delegates to represent their association in CANUK. These delegates elect the CANUK Executives at the Annual General Meeting whose tenure of office runs for two years.
Constitution: This was drafted by Professor Oba Nsugbe, QC, SAN and approved by the member-associations in general meeting in 2005.
