AND WHAT WE STAND FOR - SEE BELOW FOR INFORMATION AND AN ABSTRACT OF OUR AIMS AND OBJECTIVES FROM OUR CONSTITUTION.

About CANUK

The Central Association of Nigerians in the United Kingdom (CANUK) is an umbrella body of all Nigerian Associations in the United Kingdom and Northern Ireland.  CANUK was formed in recognition of a clear need to unite the plethora of Nigerian societies, bodies, unions and organizations under one all-embracing umbrella organisation with a view to ensuring that whenever and wherever appropriate, the welfare, views, and community interests of Nigerians in the United Kingdom are represented in a harmonious and organised manner, thereby giving a common forum and united voice to an expression of pride and hope for a vibrant Nigerian community in the United Kingdom.

It currently represents about 75 different associations and 18 other affiliate/associate members with a initial take-off membership of 28,000. Its membership has grown significantly and we envisage it will soon embrace the entire estimated 1.5 Million plus Nigerians resident in the United Kingdom.

At the head of CANUK’s Executive Committee is Dr. Mark Abani from the Ebonyi State Community who is assisted by eight other elected leaders of various Nigerian organisations.  See the Biog of our executive for details.

THE EXECUTIVE 2006 - 2008 with HE Dr & Mrs Kolade CON

The founding patron of the CANUK is HE Dr Christopher Kolade CON , the former Nigerian High Commissioner to the UK, who has continued to inspire and facilitate a united action among Nigerians in the United Kingdom.

CANUK’s membership is drawn from all Nigerian cultural, state-based, professional, social and region-based organisations.
